CHECKER AUTO AND ITS REBATES- WHAT A RIP OFF!





(Posted Friday 4-09-2005) When I went to FRY'S ELECTRONICS - in Phoenix, AZ in mid October of 2003 I'd been forewarned about buying anything from their store that had any kind of rebate attached to it. Personally I've never had any problems with (the mailing of) rebates but looking back now I wish that I'd of taken the advice given. Maybe I should have learned my lesson that time around with how Fry's Electronics treated me with their rebate, but I guess I didn't.

On Wednesday February 2nd, 2005 I'd seen an ad in the local newspaper. It read that if one was to buy a box of 12 quarts of Valvoline Oil at Checker, then there would be a rebate of $7.20. Just like Fry's Electronics, for some unanswered reason this rebate center needed up to TWO MONTHS to return your rebate. Just like I said in my Fry's story, how a company can need so long for something that is so simple is total incompetence in my opinion.

So two days later I mailed off my rebate. Yes I'm sure you're going to gather what I'm about to say next, before I even get there. EIGHT WEEKS later there was still nothing in the mail. Not only does this rebate center have the audacity to want AND ask for two months to send a check back to you, but even AFTER that time period it still can't deliver the goods. Absolutely useless, there's no other words for it!

By the end of the first week in April of 2005 I'd already filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I'll update this page if and when I ever hear anything back. It'll be a small miracle I'm sure.

>>UPDATE: (4-16-05) The company whose name is below responded to the BBB on 4-6-05 by saying the following:

We have received the rebate information. A check has been submitted for processing in the amount of $7.20 which in the final stages of processing check # 1022791

UNBELIEVABLE, today is Saturday 4-16-05. So TEN days after they get the complaint from the BBB its still not at my home. As of today this rebate was mailed to them TEN WEEKS and ONE day ago? Go figure?

CONCLUSION: On Wednesday 4-20-05 the rebate arrived at my home. ELEVEN WEEKS to the day since it was mailed off. The first thing I did was call Ted at Checker in Prescott Valley where I had bought the Valvoline from for the rebate and I told him the story of this appalling rebate company. I wanted him to know this so that when customers did inquire about any problems with their rebate center, he could tell them. Thanks again for your reading, Johnny Anderson:
